After 35 years asking tough questions as a university professor, I've got a few for our local government.
I'm Dr. Chris Shaw, and I'm running for CVRD Director in Cowichan Bay (Area D) in the October 17th election because I believe our community deserves better—better accountability, better decision-making, and better representation of what matters to the people who actually live here.
My mission is straightforward: restore responsive, community-driven governance that puts Cowichan residents first, and bring the critical thinking and common sense that's been missing from local decision-making.
Experience That Actually Matters
I've spent over 35 years as a university professor at UBC, where my job has been to ask tough questions, analyze complex problems, and cut through noise to find real solutions. Whether we're talking about taxation policies, land use decisions, food security, or protecting the freedoms that make the Cowichan Valley special, I know how to do the homework and get decisions right.
I've also served 19 years with the Canadian Forces Reserve, where I learned what effective leadership actually looks like: teamwork, disciplined project management, and delivering results when it matters most.
More than ever, the Cowichan Valley needs strong leadership anchored in integrity- a leadership that prioritizes those it represents and can find creative ways to make policy work for everyone.
